Our roots:
In the footsteps of Daniel Zen.
Casa Daniel Zen is also a window on history. And what a story! Here, on 11 November 1584, was born Daniel Zen, the first (and only) Ladin prince-bishop. A country boy who from Somvig has even amazed the court of Queen Anne of Habsburg with his sermons. A tough guy for his time: from the school benches in Dillingen, then in Germany Rectory in Brixen, court chaplain in Vienna and finally Bishop-Prince of Bressanone. One who has been able to make his way, but without ever forgetting his valley.
Between a sermon and a diplomatic meeting, Daniel Zen found the time to build the cathedral of San Vito, later become patron saint of Vigo di Fassa in his honor, and leave funds for the young people of the valley, a gesture that symbolizes his commitment to return what he had received.
For us, Daniel Zen is not just a name on the home plaque: it is a daily reminder of how to do things well, with concreteness and determination. We are inspired by his tradition in our own way .With less robes and more smiles, but with the same respect for work, territory and anyone who comes to visit.
In short, living in the house of a former Prince Bishop is a great responsibility, but we are doing. And while we carry on our little kingdom of hospitality, maybe you will get a piece of that serenity that Daniel Zen carried with him wherever he went.

We do things small and simple, but we do them well. Our rooms are essential – we have 9 rooms for up to twenty people – but don’t be fooled: there is everything you need, and even more. Bathroom in the room, balcony with view on the Dolomites or the woods and Wi-Fi to share with friends and family the most beautiful moments of your holiday in Val di Fassa (Fassa Valley Dolomites). Are you a family and want to come on holiday with your children? You can always ask for one or more extra beds, to be added in the room so that you can sleep together.

Forget the car
a fantastic option.
Casa Daniel Zen is very close to everything that is convenient. The Catinaccio-Rosengarten cable car to climb up is less than 100 meters from our house. Upon arrival at the return track in the village, the Catinaccio ski area, you can walk to the ski resort.
Want to take a walk? The bus or ski bus stop is in the center of Vigo, which is 150 meters.
Here your car can really takes a holiday as much as you. If you like the idea of staying away from the chaos, but also not too far from civilization, you’re in the right place.

A memorable breakfast
is done with the quality of the selected products.
Breakfast is the kingdom of Francesca. Homemade jams, local cheeses, freshly baked cakes. The buffet at Casa Daniel Zen is the right motivation to get you out of bed early in the morning. And, yes, there’s coffee too. The one prepared with the fresh water of our mountains, which releases the aroma and gives you the flavor for a real awakening.
After breakfast, free all.
Climb a mountain, slide down a trail, or sit on the balcony and watch the view. Don’t forget to do – or not do – what makes you feel good. For us, that’s the most important thing. What about dinner?
We’ll take care of it.
If after a day out you do not want to get back on the road, our restaurant is cozy at the right place. A la carte menus, from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.
Traditional Ladin dishes, Italian cuisine, pizza, vegetarian and even vegan proposals, and everything else. An excellent cuisine at hand, to end the day without stress. If comfort is a priority and you prefer not to be surprised, choose the half board formula: you save yourself the daily search for a place suitable for your dinner, and taste every evening a surprise from our menu.

As you may have understood, Casa Daniel Zen is not a sophisticated structure and does not try to be one.
When you are here you will be at home, in a cozy place in the middle of the Dolomites of Val di Fassa,(Fassa Valley) where true luxury is measured in simple things: exuberant nature in every season, a calm silence that gives a refreshing sleep that makes you wake up with a smile, and a gourmet kitchen. This is our recipe and it’s not even so secret, we strongly believe that the simple and authentic things are those who know how to surprise us.
